Axial dispersion in the cardiovascular system

Part of a modular system for monitoring the dispersion of substances in branched systems

Cut channels of the modular system for monitoring the dispersion of substances in branched systems

The distribution of a drug or substance in blood stream is one of the major functions of the cardiovascular system. This distribution could be simulated by the model of axial dispersion introduced by Sir G. Taylor in the middle of the 20th century. This model however can be used neither for transient flow between laminar and turbulent regimes, nor for more complex geometries of tube systems. In the Laboratory of Cardiovascular Biomechanics, we want to simulate experimentally the drug dispersion in a bifurcation of a tube using the conductivity change after conductive brine is injected inside distilled water flowing through the tube system.
