Porous Composite Materiáls with Polyamide Reinforcement and Siloxane Matrix with Nano-Hydroxyapatite as Biomaterials

Project description:

Mechanical and biological properties optimization of composites using modification of matrix by calcium phosphate nano and micro particles. Addition of CaP particles into the composites matrix has a possitive influence on their biocompatibility.

An example of in vitro bioactivity testing (soaking of composites in simulated body fluid; SBF) - apatite formation on composite surfaces in SBF is useful for predicting the in vivo bone bioactivity.

Different volume fraction of calcium phosphates particles in composite matrix has a strong influence on bone cells rection (MG-63 cells, pictures: Institute of Physiology, ASCR).

The project aims at designing and developing composite material with optimum size pores and suitable mechanical properties for potential bone tissue engineering. The composite consists of polyamide fabrics embedded in siloxane matrix with hydroxyapatite micro- or nanocrystals uniformously dispersed in the matrix. In vitro and in vivo tests with histological documentation are carried out on prepared composites and implants. Application of the composite to be developed on selected bone replacements.
