Design and innovation of knee joint orthoses
Project description:
Orthotics and prosthetics is a multidisciplinary branch that is rapidly developing due to new knowledge in technology and application of modern materials. Development of material engineering, bionics, biomechanics and electronics makes possible to design and to manufacture orthoses providing more comfort, utility and design. Composite materials, light and strong alloys, plastics, textiles, and other silicone elastomers are increasingly used for the manufacturing of orthoses. These materials must withstand different types of loads without affecting their functionality. Mechanical properties such as strength, rigidity and durability of individual parts and also the whole orthoses are analysed by finite element method and experimentally tested.
